U.S. Air Force Gen. Gregory M. Guillot, a four-star general and the top commander responsible for air defenses across the continental United States and Canada, recently addressed the Senate Armed Services Committee. On February 13th, he highlighted the increasing challenge posed by drones over U.S. military sites, including those in New Jersey.
Gen. Guillot emphasized the need for enhanced technology and broader authorities to effectively manage the growing presence of these unmanned aerial systems (sUAS). As the head of NORTHCOM, which is tasked with defending North America from various threats, and NORAD, he described this situation as part of a "rapidly evolving strategic environment."
He further noted that small unmanned aerial systems have emerged as a significant threat to both infrastructure and personnel within the homeland.
