Rep. Chris Smith of New Jersey addressed attendees at the March for Life 2025, expressing optimism about the future of the pro-life movement. "I met my dear wife Marie more than fifty years ago in the pro-life movement—and today, like you, we are more hope-filled than ever," he stated.

Smith commended Jennie Bradley Lichter and her team for organizing the event, which he described as an opportunity to renew commitment to protecting vulnerable lives. He emphasized support for pregnancy care centers, noting that a recent Marist poll indicated 83% of Americans favor these facilities.

Smith criticized Planned Parenthood and called for an end to its taxpayer funding. He described abortion methods in stark terms and reiterated his belief in "indomitable hope" among pro-life advocates.

He praised former President Donald Trump for his actions against what Smith termed "extremist pro-abortion candidates" and highlighted Trump's executive orders aimed at defunding organizations like the World Health Organization (WHO) over their abortion policies.

The congressman acknowledged legislative efforts by Republican leaders such as Speaker Mike Johnson and Majority Leader John Thune. The Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, passed by the House with a vote of 217 to 204, seeks to ensure medical care for infants born alive after attempted abortions.

Smith cited Dr. Willard Cates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Abortion Surveillance Unit on why live births post-abortion are underreported: "(Live births) are little known because organized medicine, from fear of public clamor and legal action, treats them more as an embarrassment to be hushed up than a problem to be solved."

In closing, Smith reiterated his faith in eventual success: "We have hope. We have just begun."
