The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) operated by the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office has been awarded $1,241,250 in federal funding for significant technology and communications equipment upgrades. This funding was secured through a congressional earmark by Rep. Chris Smith (R-Manchester).
“Monmouth County—under the great leadership of Sheriff Shaun Golden—has provided top-notch and cost-effective emergency services for local residents through this critical law enforcement and first responder unit,” said Rep. Smith.
“This significant investment will go a long way to enhance the lifesaving mission of the center, which comprehensively evaluates and works to mitigate the damage of natural disasters, extreme weather, environmental emergencies, and other catastrophic events—before, during and after tragedy strikes,” Smith added.
Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden expressed gratitude for the funds secured by Smith. The federal funds will be supplemented by a local match of $413,750 to cover the project’s total cost of $1,655,000.
“The Monmouth County Sheriff's Office - Office of Emergency Management is extremely grateful to Congressman Chris Smith for his ongoing support of emergency operations,” said Sheriff Golden.
“Emergency Operations Centers are critical when coordinating, facilitating, and directing during crises situations, and this valuable grant will enable us to remain in the forefront of emergency response,” Golden continued. “It will be utilized to significantly upgrade technology and enhance our ability to respond swiftly and effectively, with the very best resources to ensure the safety and well-being of our communities and residents.”
Upgrades needed at the EOC include replacing an aging video wall; upgrading radio communications systems; replacing outdated desktop computers and monitors; purchasing laptops for field assessments; acquiring tablets for real-time tracking and status of evacuations; improving seating for 24/7 operations; and replacing end-of-life phone systems.
“This state-of-the-art technology is needed to assure the best collection of actionable information and real-time coordination between key officials in multiple departments, agencies, organizations, and different municipalities,” said Smith.
“These significant enhancements will ensure that leaders from the local, state, and federal levels can make the most informed and timely decisions on how to deploy and manage resources amid such difficult circumstances,” Smith concluded.
