Rep. Chris Smith (R-Manchester) issued a statement today marking the 10th anniversary of the enactment of the Sean and David Goldman International Child Abduction Prevention and Return Act.
"Ten years ago today, the Sean and David Goldman International Child Abduction Prevention and Return Act—which I authored to help bring home American children who have been abducted overseas—was enacted into law," said Smith.
Smith noted that while the "Goldman Act" has helped reunite families and prevent future abductions, many parents are still waiting to see their children again. He criticized the U.S. State Department for not utilizing all available tools effectively.
"At a hearing I will chair in September, we will be asking the hard questions and pressing the State Department and other U.S. officials to take bolder action on behalf of these left-behind parents, especially those whose children have been abducted to Japan," Smith added.
