Rep. Chris Smith (R-Manchester) issued a statement today criticizing President Biden's recent executive action on immigration, labeling it as insufficient and politically motivated amid the ongoing crisis at the US southern border.

"President Biden has lied time and again to the American people, falsely claiming he could do nothing to secure our border," said Smith. "Now, worried about his election prospects, he has issued a feeble executive action that fails to fully secure the border and excludes significant provisions needed to stop the growing national security and humanitarian crisis."

Smith referenced House Speaker Mike Johnson's remarks, stating that Biden has taken at least 64 executive actions, including revoking Trump-era immigration policies on his first day in office, which have contributed to what Smith described as a "wide-open, lawless border."

"Biden isn’t fooling anyone with his election year trick," Smith continued. He highlighted that House Republicans had passed comprehensive legislation—HR 2—last year aimed at addressing the border situation by ensuring proper vetting and processing of individuals traveling to the country. However, according to Smith, this legislation was rejected by Biden and Senate Democrats.

"It is as clear as day that Biden—who has let this disaster spiral out of control beyond reckoning—is not serious about ending the crisis at our border," concluded Smith.
