Rep. Chris Smith (R-Manchester) has announced that an Information Night for students interested in competing for a US Service Academy nomination will take place on April 18, 2024, at Naval Weapons Station Earle in Colts Neck, NJ.
The event aims to provide essential information for high school and college students, as well as their parents, counselors, or teachers, residing in the Fourth Congressional District who are looking to compete for a congressional nomination to one of the five US Service Academies. Smith highlighted the significance of these institutions in training future military leaders and offering them a top-quality collegiate education free of financial obligations.
Smith emphasized the impressive qualifications and dedication shown by student applicants over the years, stating, "The qualifications and dedication of the student applicants who have stepped forward over the years is impressive and inspiring."
Residents of New Jersey’s Fourth Congressional District aged between 17 and 22 (17-25 for the Merchant Marine Academy) and meeting specific criteria can seek a nomination to one or more of the service academies through Smith's office. Nominations are available to individuals in the Fourth Congressional District, regardless of where they attend high school or college.
For those interested in the Information Night or seeking more details, Congressman Smith’s Toms River Office can be contacted at 732-504-0567.
It is important to note that the U.S. Coast Guard Academy stands out from the other service academies as it does not require a congressional nomination, and students can apply directly to the Academy.
