OCHD HIV PREVENTION PROGRAM TAKES PART IN 2022 PRIDE PARADE IN TOMS RIVER
The Ocean County Health Department’s HIV Prevention program participated in its first Pride parade on June 11, 2022. The event gave way to clear skies and an exciting & celebratory atmosphere filled with positivity, diversity and inclusivity. OCHD’s HIV Prevention program launched a new Sexual Health Advocacy For Everyone (S.A.F.E.) program that offers high-quality testing, counseling and care to anyone regardless of their HIV status.
The S.A.F.E. program gave out over 100 goodie bags that contained information on various OCHD services as well as safe sex kits and $10 gift cards to all those who received an onsite HIV rapid test. Rapid testing was performed in the Health Department’s new state-of-the-art mobile health van.
A total of 31 people were tested ranging from young teens (age 14) to older adults and included a few parade-goers who were not sexually active but wanted to be proactive and know their status. All individuals tested learned about OCHD’s free programs including PrEP, vaccines, chronic disease screenings, STI screenings, COVID testing, Eye clinic, cancer detection services and more!
The event was wildly successful and both staff and participants had a great time!
DON'T FORGET JUNE 27, 2022 IS NATIONAL HIV TESTING DAY
