Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ), who serves as Co-Chair of the Congressional Pro-Life Caucus, recently discussed the Hyde Amendment and its relevance in a televised interview with Tony Perkins on “Washington Watch with Tony Perkins.” The Hyde Amendment restricts federal funds from being used for elective abortions. Smith highlighted the continued importance of this policy and advocated for its application to subsidies under the Affordable Care Act.

Smith has represented New Jersey’s 4th district in Congress since 1981, succeeding Frank Thompson. He was born in Rahway, New Jersey in 1953 and currently resides in Manchester Township. Smith graduated from The College of New Jersey in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science degree.
