Last year, the federal government approved the offshore wind project Empire Wind 1 and 2, which began construction earlier this month. Currently, the project is on hold.

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management received instructions to pause the Empire project from the Department of the Interior, pending a review to “address these serious deficiencies.”

Secretary Doug Burgum, in a letter to the BOEM, stated that the project was rushed through by the Biden administration without sufficient analysis or consultation.

Representative Chris Smith discussed the effects of the pause with Eric Landskroner in a segment aired over the weekend of April 18-20.
