Congressman Chris Smith (R-NJ) and Congressman Jim McGovern (D-MA) will jointly preside over a congressional hearing under the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission. The session is scheduled to examine global antisemitism, its prevalence, various forms in different regions, and how governments are responding. The hearing will also evaluate the effectiveness of policies aimed at combating antisemitism and address issues related to foreign governments that may promote such ideologies.
Recent reports from advocacy and research organizations have highlighted significant increases in antisemitism worldwide, including within the United States. These findings have been documented by entities such as the American Jewish Committee, the Anti-Defamation League, the Combat Antisemitism Movement, and Tel Aviv University.
The hearing will feature several witnesses: Ted Deutch, Chief Executive Officer of the American Jewish Committee; Marina Rosenberg, Senior Vice President for International Affairs at the Anti-Defamation League; Eric Fusfield, Director of Legislative Affairs at B’nai B’rith International; and Stacy Burdett, a consultant on Antisemitism Response and Prevention.
The event is set for Tuesday, May 20, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. EST in Room 2322 of the Rayburn House Office Building. Further details about this hearing can be accessed through the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission’s website under “Worldwide Persecution of Jews.”
